Zambian Cancer Society 2017

The Zambian Cancer Society

JUL. 30, 2017

The Zambian Polo Association works closely with the Zambian Cancer Society to create DVD recordings to raise awareness in our community.

THANK YOU, ZIKOMO, TWATOTELA, LUITUMEZI, TWALUMBA!   Free Breast Cancer Audio Guides Launched:        For a cancer patient, hearing the words “you have cancer” can be difficult and confusing. But there is hope. In 2017, the Zambian Cancer Society (ZCS) set up a Patient Information and Support Desk, otherwise called its “Hope Desk” at the Cancer Diseases Hospital in Lusaka, Zambia.    Through the Hope Desk, the ZCS came to realise the information gap that existed amongst patients who were unclear about their diagnosis and treatment options. So, devised a plan to improve the low health literacy on cancer.   The result? The launch of two free breast cancer audio guides to help breast cancer patients and their caregivers cope with cancer.    The generosity of the Zambia Polo Association over the past two years has enabled the ZCS to translate these free breast cancer audio guides from English into four of the seven main local languages. Namely: Bemba, Nyanja, Tonga and Lozi.  This means the message will be spread even farther as people become more knowledgeable about breast cancer and take appropriate steps to care of themselves, or their loved ones with cancer.
